The Old Church Bell
Can an old bell still ring out a sound? There is some History in the Bell located on our grounds. Since 1847 our church, formerly known as First Baptist Church, has been active in the community. First locating on the Square, above a drug store, then on to a little church, behind the square, on Jefferson St. Here they really labored hard for Christ. By 1865 a larger church was needed. It had to have a Bell Tower and still be near the Square. Land was soon purchased at the corner of Throop St. and Jackson St. behind the old courthouse. Construction began and the church was occupied in 1866. In 1957 a new church building and parsonage were built; and the bell was placed in front; a reminder of their past. This church and bell still stand today at the same location, 13614 W Jackson St.
Time for a change: In 1999 the church voted unanimously on a new church name, Christ Life Church, Woodstock.
Moving Forward: Christ Life Church is beginning a new chapter in 2020. We believe new families will come to be planted here and will grow for the Lord. It will be their future and they will bring glory to God. Yes, an old bell can still ring out a sound, “Jesus saves, Jesus saves”.
